Northwestern University in Qatar now offers a course titled “Global Turkish TV Drama,” designed by faculty member Yasemin Y. Celikkol. This innovative course examines the cultural, social, and global impact of Turkish series, marking an important step in how these productions are perceived worldwide.

 

With a presence in nearly 170 countries and a viewership of over 700 million, Turkish dramas have become a cultural phenomenon. Celikkol’s course explores the underlying factors behind their widespread appeal, providing students with an academic lens to understand their popularity and influence.

Students analyze the success of well-known series like Gümüş (Noor), Binbir Gece (The Thousand and One Nights), and Fatmagül’ün Suçu Ne? (What is Fatmagül’s Fault?).

Celikkol shared that she introduced the Turkish TV drama course to recognize these productions’ significant influence and global appeal.
